Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge

Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge ★★★½

Second sequel to Puppet Master is actually a prequel, and relocates the action to Nazi Germany. Toulon is a puppeteer who attracts the attention of the Nazi's - first because of his political satire, and then because of his ability to give life to inanimate objects. This film takes heavy influence from Re-Animator with both the fluid that animates the puppets and the soundtrack. It's a bit of a step up from the other two in terms of plot and characterisation. Toulon is actually a sympathetic character here, and the puppets are very much working for the forces of good against the Nazi's. There's some good gory kills - including a really nice tribute to Alien and a nod to Hellraiser aswell. Nice back stories for Leech Woman and Blade too. Some of the lore expansion raises questions about things in the other two films.....but it's best not to worry about such things. Puppet Master III is a fun romp, and the best of the first three Puppet Master films.
