Thematically dense, unique and incredibly impactful. This is my favorite kind of sci-fi. It's a bit slower paced and definitely not showy. Any effects are carefully blended with real shots and grounded in a realistic near future Earth. Also, the creation of an entire language that is revealed over the course of the film is impressive to say the least.

Amy Adams is stellar here. She is in full control of her quiet but expressive performamce. A supporting cast includes…

The tenacity of love in action. Venus and Serena write a love letter to their parents, and particularly their father. Inspiring and well made. Will Smith is great.

Simply a blast. Been waiting for Black Widow / Scarlett to get her due for too long.

    Quick Thoughts:
    • I loved the opening credits - including the cover song. Great.
    • I actually enjoyed the slow build of the first act.
    • Florence Pugh is amazing - looking forward to her future in the MCU.
    • Rachel Weisz!
    • Scarlett should have had 3 solo movies as Black Widow.

This story would be crazy enough, but it's based on actual American pilot Barry Seal. His life takes a turn when he is recruited by the CIA and winds up in the middle of multiple stories you could see on the news back in the 70's and 80's.

Scruffy, scrappy, devil-may-care Cruise is sensational. Domnhall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, and a wide ranging cast to play Seal's South American counterparts, help make this movie charismatic and real. Tom Cruise also apparently does all his own flying.

Cruise and Liman are magic collaborators and this is no exception.
