A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors ★★★★½

I feel like this installment not only adds to the previous two but is essential to the franchise. It gets deeper into Freddy's backstory with hints dropped here and there and whoa is it dark. There is a band of kids, complete with super strongman, 'wizard master', a badass punk girl, mad parkour skills dream-link chick (Patricia Arquette), Nancy the dream specialist, an open-minded psychiatrist and a random nun.

The surrealist horror that is signature to these films is present, however I feel it got even more creative and creepy: a little girl saying "this is where he takes us," artery marionette boy, needle fingers, a noose party, the good ole boiler room and story time about Freddy's beginnings. Throw in a psychiatric hospital for good measure. Also, thank goodness for someone ACTUALLY FREAKING OUT AS THEY SHOULD. Thus far, this is the darkest of the films due to what we find out.

All the boxes have been ticked for me. I love learning more about a killer. I love a ragtag gang of misfits getting together for a mission. I love the creep factor. I love the effects, complete with claymation. I can complain about some slumps in pacing and very flat acting but whatever, just go with it.
"Let's go kick the motherfucker's ass all over dreamland."
