lol as if
There’s a potentially interesting idea here in the sheer star wattage of the cast being dwarfed and bettered by Branagh, both as a director and lead character, as he is Poirot, a (borderline super)man who solves the mystery without any (significant) difficulty, tackling a situation where everyone is responsible and to blame. He positions himself above literally everyone else in one of the most impressive ensemble casts in recent years, and there’s something ballsy in that. The film explores that idea with only a slight degree of self-awareness, which is disappointing, but it’s a fun ride nonetheless. I kinda both love and hate mysteries that are literally impossible to solve until the last minute, so I’m feeling a strong five to a light six on this Christie.
