Simon’s review published on Letterboxd:
Jake Gyllenhaal’s face and Riley Keough’s voice go a long way. They do great work here.
Antoine Fuqua’s hyper masculine, bruiser sensibilities are really not to my taste, but it’s serviceable for this kind of vehicle.
This is all well intentioned but it’s done with such brute force that it kind of smashes any sense of thematic resonance to pieces.
