Halloween embodies so much of what I love about John Carpenter - his expansive widescreen compositions, his minimalist musical scores, his often meticulous build-up of dread - but within all of that is a sense of 'absence'. Not seeing Michael Myers, but knowing he's there, is the film's central function.
So I made a video about this, The Fog, and how John Carpenter creates so much tension without really showing anything at all.
Hope you enjoy.
