Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers ★★½

45

While not a disastrous folly like Space Jam: A New Legacy, this IP conglomerate mishmash struggles to balance both its aims of satire and essential branding. It helps that the mystery plotting, while not as genre specific or inventive as Roger Rabbit, is there to give a grounded basis for the story, but the jokes are hit-or-miss. Even worse is the animation - a mix of cell-shaded "2D", 3D, and live-action that is often poorly integrated and flat. It looks cheap and the film struggles to maintain any immersion or fluidity in its movement. Ultimately the film is a bit of a slog, even with a run-time of 90-ish minutes. A lot of people seem to like Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers for its self-deprecating parody of Hollywood reboots and nostalgia culture, but the energy can't quite keep up the pace.
