You Don't Mess with the Zohan

    ½

    Oooooof.

There is not one thing in this movie that makes any sense and it is offensive. I’ve seen a tonne of movies that make little to no sense and they can be enjoyable, outrageous and a lot of fun. Like Hobbs and Shaw was bat shit crazy but there was so much fun to be had with it.  The Zohan was not fun and has none of those qualities. Complete waste of time.

  • The Favourite

    The Favourite

    ★★

Well, I have never watched a film quite like that before. Was it well made? Yes, absolutely, for the most part. But was it enjoyable? Not. At. All.

Uncomfortable, grotesque, ugly, pretentious; are all words that come to mind when I look back on the experience.

I am unfamiliar with the filmmaker and have zero interest in exploring he oeuvre if this is his most accessible work.

The costumes and sets were all fantastic, although poorly lit and framed for…

  • Murder Mystery

    Murder Mystery

    ★★½

This isn’t a comment on the movie per se but it was a little hard to watch due to how completely checked out and depressed Adam Sandler looks. I really hope he is taking care of himself and he has a support group because he doesn’t look well.

#18 Scavenger Hunt 46 Something with A ROAD, DRIVE, LANE, AVENUE OR STREET

    #10 Summer 2019

What a surprise Thunder Road is. I was touched by this genuine, vulnerable and ill-equipped man and his tragedy.

  • Alien: Covenant

    Alien: Covenant

    ★★★★

Every single person in Alien Covenant is incredibly stupid; they make insanely poor choices and react horribly for people who are supposed to be at least semi-elite trained astronauts. You would assume, even in this future, that the group charged with transporting the individuals that will colonise a planet would have the sense enough to wear god damn helmets on a random ass planet that they just so happened to stumble across, jeopardising the mission because singing?

That aside, the second viewing was so much more enjoyable and interesting than the first time around - almost good enough to forget about how dumb these people are.

    ★★★★

    Summer '19 #7

The Clovehitch Killer is a slow burn thriller that is extremely well executed with a great payoff. Dylan McDermott stood out for me with the best performance I have seen, as the subtle and effectively creepy suspected serial killer.

Although I thought that it was on the predictable side, the depth and subtlety of the characters and performances, as well as the precise nature of the storytelling really sold it.

  • Sandy Wexler

    Sandy Wexler

    ★★

The first Adam Sandler film in quite a while that didn't entirely make me want to gouge my eyes out with the bluntest utensil I can find.

  • Searching

    Searching

    ★★★★

This is a very well executed movie that, while gimmicky and somewhat predictable, tells the story of a father searching for his daughter with a depth and honesty that I was not expecting.

After the mess that was Unfriended that has a very similar style, it is comforting that this type of movie can produce fully fleshed out characters and be very thoughtful in its execution.

    A Star Is Born

    Oof.

Nothing about this movie is pretty and I found it rather unpleasant to watch. With a run time of two and a half hours, they could have shaved off 120 minutes and it still would have been too long.

At the end of watching a film, my boyfriend, without fail, says "well that was a movie". On this occassion he couldn't be more wrong, it's nothing more than a turd wrapped in celluloid.

  • Venom

    Venom

    ★★★

It was competent enough and for the most part enjoyable due to Tom Hardy.

Superhero fatigue has certainly set in at this point but curiosity is still strong enough to continue watching them, for the time being at least.
