The Many Saints of Newark

The Many Saints of Newark ★★

It all feels wrong almost immediately. The actors give mere impressions of the original cast rather than believably inhabiting their characters, making it really hard to actually get invested in the story–which is derivative of the show anyhow, rather than an extension if it–or even to really care about the characters at all. It is impossible to watch this and see anyone as a person, as they are all so clearly just performers. Even if you can get past that, the story itself is half-baked. It's directed like a full season of a miniseries but in just 2 hours, and it doesn't work. Anyway, I woke up early to watch this so now I get to say, "woke up this morning, watched myself a film," so in the end it was worth it.
