A 95 minute exercise in minimalism, behavior studies, psychology... and boredom. It doesn't add up to much, aside from an enervating, devitalizing, exhausting, synonyms, moviegoing experience. Everything I said about Alps applies here but this is even more raw with even less of a budget, and Yorgos with shaky handheld shots is somehow even more unnerving than usual. As someone who considers The Favourite one of my, well, favorite films of all time and Dogtooth, The Lobster, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer to be true modern masterpieces, I am disappointed to discover that Yorgos Lanthimos has, in fact, made at least 2 films that are ultimately debilitating (HA another synonym) excercises in futility.
