Still a great watch that does not at all feel like a 2 hour and 40 minute movie. This is super refreshing to check out right after one of the much darker in tone sequels.!
It doesn’t come close to the charm and whimsy and love those first two effortlessly create, but it is a fairly climatic conclusion that does some justice to some iconic characters and the world of magic. Obviously it’s going for a darker tone, atmosphere, and plot, trying to capture the book’s hopelessness nature, but I think it all ends up feeling a bit shallow. Still, most of the cast is great and some of the shots feel so cinematic and genuinely grand-scale.
I don’t think it’s perfect but it is pretty incredible.
This was one of the most emotional films I’ve ever seen. The way it keeps layering on emotional weight is soul crushing. Hoffman turns in one of the best performances I’ve ever seen from him, cementing him as one of the greatest actors to ever live even further for me.

I like JoJo Rabbit, a lot. But I think this movie hits what that movie was trying to do way harder and way better.
