I have a firm grasp of what this film is trying to say, and can understand why its connected with so many people. It's a profoundly human story, and heartbreaking in every way; the performances underscoring the quiet devastation threaded into every scene. However, I personally had a difficult time locking into this for a not insignificant portion of the runtime.
In the future if I want to watch Jack Nicholson be an asshole to everyone around him, I'll just reach for The Shining for the 19249129th time instead.
