Don't Worry Darling

Don't Worry Darling ★★½

This is not a terrible movie. It's worth ignoring the drama.

That being said, it doesn't work. At a basic script level, the set up and eventual punch line is poorly balanced, (un)explained, and untethered from any grounded reality of actions and consequences. The twist just doesn't have enough juice to hit the way the movie wants and the actual explanation is never fully built for the audience in a satisfying way. The first act is more than 2/3rds of the whole film.

The visuals are wonderful. Florence Pugh is great. Harry Styles is really quite good, too. There are a few interesting stand alone set pieces that kept me hoping for more.

The score is garbage, one of the worst bits of "hey, this is where the tension is! Right here, do you see it?" bombastic nonsese I've seen in a modern film in a long time.
