Shawn Ko’s review published on Letterboxd:
Sometimes you just need some mindless entertainment after watching serious dramas, and Kong: Skull Island was the perfect stupid popcorn flick. This movie was pretty bad regarding its script, stereotypic characters, and strange tonal shifts. However, putting these flaws aside, this was surprisingly a lot of fun and was also so dumb that I at least can credit the movie for knowing what it was trying to be.
It’ll also never cease to amaze me as to the casts that these films can get for these kinds of movies. I never realized the huge appeal that these monster films have for so many, and I'm not sure if this is due to the action or the impressive talent that agrees to be in these movies. So while Kong: Skull Island was nothing more than a dumb King Kong movie that is far too predictable and poorly written for its own good, it, however, provides an easy-going viewing experience, and sometimes that’s all I ask for out of these movies.
