Did not expect this at all, especially coming from Shoot the Piano Player. This was way more quirky than expected, especially the beginning and "joyous" moments with its fast cuts and movement. And I have to say that they are the best parts of the movie. The rest has a lot more toxic relationship on screen and scenes that dragged on from time to time. The sudden spikes in intensity during the ending were fun, wish the whole half was…

My new favourite Bergman film. This is just a combination of raw emotion, incredible and incredibly sharp dialogue and some terrific shots (some flashback scenes looked at times like a Baroque painting).

It also helps that Liv Ullman as Eva is probably my new favourite female performance. It is out of this world: every movement, every word, every little detail in the body language felt so real . Ingrid Bergman is fantastic too. It was like a -really well placed camera- just filmed a reunion between a mother and her daughters.

In short, most of the most powerful dramas I've seen.

The greatest war movie ever made ?

It's a movie that just leaves you completely destroyed at the end. I've been having a blank mind for half an hour and I just can't shake off the harrowing feeling I've had since finishing this movie.

The way the movie uses sound effects, long tracking shots and especially looks directly into the camera to convey the horror of what's happening is incredibly powerful. The main actor is insane for a newcomer, there…
