Quite a simple story. Guy needs bike & job to feed family. Guy gets bike back from pawnshop by selling their bed sheets. First day at work someone steals bike. Now guy and young son start searching for the bike. With such a simple concept a great film was realized. Now I'm no filmmaker, but in 1948 Italy, this had to be quite an accomplishment. As a viewer, you're very close to the action. You also intimately feel the distress of the father and son. Without that bike their future is very much in flux. Postwar Italy, & for that matter Europe was a disaster for many. This film gives a poignant reminder the cost of war. Always too high.
