An hour and a half of 80’s horror perfection. Every single line, shot and music choice seems pre- destined. It doesn’t age or tame at all. Feels permanently new.

The real point of seeing this is just the first 15 minutes when The Freak is on the loose in the French countryside knifing random people like an LSD maniac. You truly believe you are witnessing the greatest story ever committed to film. There’s no plot, just mayhem and latex. Then it dies horribly for 45 minutes. Something about a haunted horse and a mummy (actually that sounds pretty good). Then our friend The Freak tries to fistfight this horse and we’re back in the saddle again until the end. Uneven fun, but the bookends are truly memorable French trash.

"Well, I'm not a pathologist, but even a layman can see it was done with this." (points to extremely bloody chainsaw sitting right next to eviscerated body)

Another Sergio Martino sleazefest done with a style and skill that only Argento could top. This one's a bit of a trick because the giallo element only goes about halfway before Martino breaks this movie wide open into something out of Edgar Allan Poe and even Hitchcock. It's totally unexpected and keeps you guessing at what the hell he's going to show you next. Edwige Fenech plays a stronger character than she usually does and that's half the fun of the movie. Definitely one of Martino's best, if not the best of his career.
