More horrifying than many horror films, Manhunter’s descent into pristine psychosis is both an awe to behold and deeply unnerving viewing experience.
Personal Rating: 9
A neon nightmare that blurs the line between heaven and hell, hunter and hunted. Likely Mann’s greatest success as a creator of images, which is made ironic by the themes of perception and the visual in the film. Manhunter also has some of his best music moments, my favorite being the scene of blazing jealousy set to “Strong As I Am” by the Prime Movers. Rarely is evil and obsession depicted so tenderly, with this much poise and grace. Whether or not I’m talking about Graham or Donahyde is up to you, though.
