Loom (Ira)’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was tremendous. Absolutely among the most movies I’ve seen this year. This is the kind of serious character study I would like to see more of. This is the kind of movie that emphasizes social realism while being expressive and moving. This movie is confrontational with its emotions, but it is grounded enough that it never feels like you’re being pandered to. This is a sincere kind of film. The kind where everything clicks in the right kind of ways and at the right moments. You can feel how much is at stake.
Not everyone is necessarily going to enjoy it (hot take: this is this year’s Three Billboards..., and I know that most people I know and love despise that movie), but I think this deserves to win best picture.
But I may eat my words, because I haven’t watched The Father yet.
