Roma ★★★★

Roma is primarily a technical achievement - it's Alfonso Cuarón showing off his skills as a filmmaker. The Oscar-winning cinematography is not only worthy of that accolade, but it's some of the best that I have ever seen, period. I didn't connect with it emotionally quite as much a lot of people have, although I do agree that the screenplay is very strong despite the plot being pretty minimalist. Newcomer Yalitza Aparicio is an incredible actress, and Cuarón was lucky to find the perfect person to play that role.

Overall, I enjoyed Roma, though not quite as much as I had hoped. I definitely do not understand the people giving this negative reviews, it feels like they're doing so just to be contrarian.
