Scarlett Worthington’s review published on Letterboxd:
I knew I would love this film because this is one of the most interesting cases ever and fucking David Fincher directed it and Jake Gyllenhaal is in it.
In terms of presenting us with a perfectly executed thriller flick, this film just gets it all spot on. With it also being a mystery, there is a constant feeling of dread with you never knowing who you can trust and with the continuous twists and turns. A film this intricate and complex would usually fall flat or drag on a bit especially with that sort of run time, but Zodiac manages to be constantly engaging in only highlighting the moments that you need to pay attention to. This is because Fincher is just brilliant at utilising the details, there are so many but you never feel it to be excessive. There is also a very certain haunting quality to this film knowing that it actually happened which is part of the reason that this film seems elevated compared to other mystery thrillers. This is definitely better than Seven (sorry about it) it’s nothing innovative or especially masterful but it’s just one of the best thrillers and sometimes you just need a film to pull you in and hold your attention like that.
