I can totally see why Baz Luhrmann wouldn't work for any one person, based just on this film alone. But this adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is such an anachronistic time capsule, so unapologetically and vividly of its very specific time, that I can'tβ¦

I'm surprised Georges MΓ©liΓ¨s didn't make himself fly when he got the broom out, but we do get to see a very cool bit of it later, and the optical illusions with the cemeteryβ¦
Event Horizon was supposed to be about aliens originally and Paul W.S. Anderson was like "nah I'ma make a haunted house movie in space." GREAT decision imo. I also love that he sites both The Shining and Robert Wise's The Haunting (the BEST Hill House adaptation) as major influences since they're both great films and I can definitely see the art parentage there, but his film still manages to be its own thing.
