Sarah’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’ve seen a lot of mixed/negative reviews of this film and I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what this film is about. it’s easy to lose track of purpose, especially in this block buster obsessed world, but when we talk about films (and especially Ocean’s 8), we have to ask ourselves why was this movie made? and for who?
and the answer here? is me. yes! this was a movie built specifically with me in mind and I was the sole, intended audience. the soundtrack, including bangers like Best Friend, Bossy, and that remix of These Boots Were Made for Walking. this cast, including Gracie Hart, Kelly Kapoor, and whatshername. the fact that their robbing the MET Gala, one of my favorite events of the year. and, of course, all the times I flipped out because it reminded me of the American Cinematic Masterpiece that is...The Devil Wears Prada.
and it’s an Ocean’s movie. my second favorite franchise. I don’t give a fuck, I love those bitches. I eat em up morning, noon, and night. Soderbergh fuck me I beg you.
so yeah, y’all go ahead and give this your little half hearted three stars, don’t worry!!!! you were never meant to enjoy this film at my elevation. only I, and I alone.
(my only regret was there was no Star Wars references but honestly it may have been too much.)
