Top 10 of 2018

My favorite movie year in a decade or more. In fact I can't really think of a year when so many films so completely fulfilled the promise of their ambitions.

But even in a year as strong as this, The Rider had this in a walk. It's telling that of all the films I've seen this year, The Rider is the only one without a LB diary entry. To write about it would be to break the spell. Part of it is just the technical achievement. The sensitivity of Joshua James Richards' cinematography, letting his camera follow the instincts of the non-professional cast.
