Samuelleary’s review published on Letterboxd:
Such a simple premise but it’s told so beautifully with so much complexity. I think it’s pretty much impossible to watch this film and not see a bit of yourself in it, even if you haven’t been in this exact scenario. I think a lot of people feel the urge to escape sometimes and I feel like that urge isn’t explored enough in film so I’m really glad it was shown here. And it was showcased in multiple areas of the plot as well giving it an emotional and thematic through-line. Harry Dean Stanton and Natassja Kinski were both incredible. There was so much vulnerability to each of their characters but it was never overly sentimental or unrealistic. They just felt like real people going through real things. Just a really beautiful film that I’m so glad I watched.
