I remember when I finished Chapter 3 in cinemas and felt mixed because at the time I fully thought it was going to be the conclusion. So when 4 and 5 were announced, I felt apprehensive because I like a good ending and a solid trilogy is nice to have. Having just seen Chapter 4, I absolutely love it when movies prove me wrong.
Cinematographer Dan Lausten would've had an absolute ball making this film with the wide array of colours and atmosphere the stylish production design provides. Of course, the choreography is breathtaking. Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves and their team have crafted a thrilling epic with top tier direction. This universe is so potent for wicked creative worldbuilding and the new cast of characters here are all excellent. Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson and Hiroyuki Sanada all completely spoil us with their supporting characters. So much so that I would love to see a John Wick fighting game with a roster of all these people.
It is when everything comes together that you get this peak of action filmmaking. There are so many memorable setpieces but there is a scene where we see and unbroken top down take of John fighting and I was almost on the verge of tears because of the sheer awe I was in.
John Wick: Chapter 4 more than delivers. It gave me that high I crave going to the movies. I love the simplicity of that first movie so much and it felt so fresh at the time so I'm not sure which I prefer but I think this one might be even better.
Everyone's talking about the length but man it totally flew by for me and I would go back and watch it again right now. Run out and see it as soon as you can.
