Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ★★★★

Wuxia done the American superhero way. In other words, pretty damn awesome. It could have gone a bit further with its themes, but still delivers an engaging and thoughtful story.

Simu Liu is a solid leading man, especially in the fun fights, but Awkwafina brings a lion’s share of the charisma. The breakout, though, is Meng’er Zhang as Xialing. I want to see her in everything. Tony Leung gives what is easily one of the best performances in the entire MCU, and he does it like taking a stroll in the park. He really is one of the all-time greats.

Really cool visuals, at their best when it’s going for a painterly, mythological feeling. Bill Pope knows what he’s doing and Cretton takes great advantage.
