Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ★★★★½

The grossest, goofiest, most chaotic, fucked up entry of the bunch, setting it off right from the jump with an amazing opening sequence that triples down on the craziness. They fall off a fucking cliff into rapids! This is the one Indy I distinctly remember seeing as a kid because it scared the shit out of me.

I don’t know if this is streamed 4K on Paramount Plus, but it’s gorgeous, a beautiful looking movie, thanks to the lighting and colors and amazing set and costume design. Spielberg directs the shit out of this thing.

The over the top grossness that veers into racism definitely does bring it down. I thought of Scorsese talking about MCU as amusement park entertainment and not cinema, but this is exactly that, and that's not a bad thing at all. The climactic set pieces winding through the mining rails is just like an amusement park ride and it's fun as hell, just like this movie. The final climax on the bridge is maybe my favorite sequence in a movie with many great ones.

Plus, SHORT ROUND <3
