Godzilla Minus One 2023
This is, in my opinion, the best of the Godzilla flicks that I’ve seen. Every open water sequence had me on the edge of my seat (especially when we’re in the damn wooden boat), and the destruction on land was brutal and terrifying. It gets the human characters right, with a few quiet character moments bringing tears to my eyes. Beautifully made. One of the year’s best.

May December 2023
The roof scene is one of my favorite movie moments of the year. The trio of lead performances is incredible, one of the darkest comedies of the year. Weird, uncomfortable, tragic. Great stuff.

It's a Wonderful Knife 2023
Wears its quirks and queerness on its sleeve and delivers a one of a kind holiday slasher that I will revisit every year moving forward. Bernie is an all time great slasher character, and I will watch anything Jess McLeod does after this. The Angel is one of the coolest looking slasher villains, even if white is a very impractical color for such a stabby happy character. Destined to become a cult classic.

Slumber Party Massacre 2021
This was not the movie I was expecting in the best way. A gleeful send up of slasher tropes and the male gaze that had me nearly in tears laughing while also being a very tense experience. The third act loses a little steam, and it ends rather abruptly, but this is probably my favorite slasher of the year so far. A must see for fans of the franchise, with plenty of nods to its predecessors and a healthy dose of camp.
