Godzilla vs. Kong

Godzilla vs. Kong ★★★½

intensely weird to see brian tyree henry inhabit the sort of comic relief role that anthony anderson would've devoured in 2003. dunno why the movie tries to barrage us with corny jokes when rebecca hall asserting that 'kong bows to no one' is the movie moment of 2021. and that's still nowhere near as funny as casting millie bobby brown as a conspiracy theorist

i enjoyed this, but you have to wonder what the point of the monsterverse movies are when none of them have been able to top, like, pacific rim in 8 whole years. hell, a lot of this ends up ripping off pacific rim: uprising of all things, minus the pleasures of charlie day as a coked-up villain

also why even bother hiring indie horror directors to make blockbusters as devoid of (non-sexual) tension as this is. the fact that this will outsell monster hunter several times over proves that justice doesn't exist
