Asako I & II 2018
A wonderful film. It seems the atmosphere and supporting characters carry the dramatic heft, letting the two main lovers mostly dwell in their interiority. Perhaps this is the point- Baku is the ghost that lingers no matter what and the open-ended dialogue drives home the idea that people are most human when love has entranced them, and being human is so limiting to many but enough for others. Also, that entrancing love is simply never forgotten.
