Ridley Scott could’ve made an entire film about the French Revolution, France’s political intrigue and Napoleon’s rise to power, his relationship with Josephine, the battle of Waterloo, or any other of the countless events and set pieces here. Instead, he made Napoleon; an overblown, weird sprawl of many different films, none of them engaging enough on their own, and mostly just baffling together. It feels both too long and too short, and lacks any overarching thread or pulse. No amount…
McQueen was great and all, but Rick Dalton is Rick fucking Dalton. Don’t you forget that.
Huge misstep by the casting team.
