Really well made prison escape movie. Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman are both fantastic here. This is probably Steve McQueen's best performance. I was really impressed with the grand scale and the attention to detail in making everything feel authentic. Another aspect I liked were the brief surreal touches which made the film stand out from other prison movies. While also still being consistent with the rest of the film. Papillon is long but consistently engaging. If I had any criticisms there are a few fake looking blood effects. Though otherwise Papillon is a near perfect film that really stands the test of time.
