“The movie is entirely tendentious. It’s all planned yet it isn’t thought out.”
-Jake’s schizophrenic vision of his ideal self
This is a movie for intellecutals. I am not one of those. I am just a dumb dumb normie watcher of movies. But I will say this with confidence, I am really sick of purely interpretational movies for MaH tHeMeS.
If you enjoy this movie then good on ya, there are a lot of things in this movie to praise but to me its lack of objectivity and its over abundance of interpretational storytelling made the movie incredibly stale, disconcerting and pretentious, leaving me utterly bewildered. I’m not gonna hop on the bandwagon and pretend I enjoyed something I thoroughly didn’t. You know your script has some major flaws in it when it feels like trying to solve a puzzle but some of the pieces are just invisible.
