Aftersun ★★★★

Explored through the hazy sentimentalism of memories, Sophie only now sees the complex emotions & situations which were once too abstract for her young mind to understand, and with this is only now truly able to understand who her father was. I ADORE the way this film was shot, there’s such a strong grasp on the way children perceive the complicated world around them, constantly spectating & attempting to process situations they’re barely old enough to grasp. The most heartbreaking parts of this film aren’t even in the film, it’s just my headcanon imagining Sophie’s years following what was unbeknownst to her, her final vacation with her father. Beautiful film.
