Unlike with Listen Up Phillip, this time I at least see the appeal behind Perry's equally dark story of equally unlikeable people. But just because a movie only has unlikeable characters doesn't mean they have to be characters you wouldn't want to watch, and after a while I didn't understand why they were worthy of my attention. The two lead performances are excellent, but that only makes it harder to accept why Perry can't elicit at least one sliver of empathy from the audience towards anyone or anything on screen.
