    Bo Burnham: Inside

Marching ever closer to the looming-but-entirely-fictional threshold of 30 during a pandemic that seemed to beg us to actualize our best work, despite us knowing that sometimes just getting through another day is all we could muster, teeing up a vicious cycle of disappointment?

    Wouldn't recommend it!

But Burnham articulates this so lucidly here, that despite making it a devastating watch in its own right, it also grants us permission to cut ourselves some slack.

I could go beat-for-beat about times the direction felt incredibly inspired and the times it didn't when it'd settle into rapid editing across a pile of coverage for some of the ensemble numbers, but I don't feel like writing that review because JESUS CHRIST THIS IS FUN, GOOD MORRRRNING, USNAAAAAVI, GOOD MORRRRNING, THE MOOOOOVIES, I MISSED THE MOOOOVIES, I LOVE ANTHONY RAAAAAMOS🎶

Hope you've enjoyed this little jingle now go see this in a theater if you haven't. It's delightful.

This is anime come to life. Vivid world-building, wild plot pivots, big emotions, grand expository dumps from a cast going ALL-IN on their archetypes, etc. It may be far too weird for many, and it gets *weird*, but I wanted Ryme City and the forests around it to swallow me whole. Rob Letterman, John Mathieson, and the prod/VFX teams have created something delightful.

Video game curse broken. Reynolds rules. Get me a Pikachu. And a Jigglypuff. And that one that serves coffee.

This movie wined and dined me then walked me home and let me wear its jacket.
