Horse Girl

Horse Girl ★★½

The themes social awkwardness and mental health issues can make for a good story and it works absolutely fine at times when it centers on the main character and her day to day life, which is thanks to a committed performance from Allison Brie, but whenever it attempts to be creative and weird and visually show her states of mind, it was hard to get into. The music was also really distracting and even annoying in places.

This would have worked a lot better had it dialed back on the crazy, imaginative stuff and showed more of the main character dealing with her problems in a more grounded manner. The first two acts I was mildly engaged with thanks to Alison Brie's performance though the surreal stuff kept holding it back, and then it just goes off the rails in the third when the surreal stuff takes over the plot.
