Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049

Was shocked by how much I loved this despite my active dislike of the original. Really does dig into some of the ideas from Do Androids Dream, with its many different constructions of how we define personhood and how lives are deliberately socially engineered to deny people access to that—Joy is really a character that sticks in your head in a great, upsetting way. Lot of good visual stuff aside from the obvious LA bits (which I found kinda boring and still cliché) on the margins; the seawall, the kipple-ization of San Diego, the extremely plausible nostalgic dead megastructure hell of Las Vegas. There's just a lot about this that worked really well.
