Not everything works in this short.
Ayode doesn’t fully fit into the world here.
It’s interesting, cause on paper you’d think he would.
But I find his tone to always have a sense of mocking to it.
It’s always one of I’m better than the material.
Hence his own work, mainly his books.

The stop motion does fully work here either.

What does work is the mime of things. And the use of lights at the end.
It’s a simple premise that could have used a bit more of horror vibe to it.
That being said it’s still worth the just over 15 min watch.

This really struck a cord with me.
Maybe cause I’ve now fully embraced the poetry of scripts.
The flow of what Anderson is creating.
    The wonderful stage directing.
    The theatre aspect of it.

Maybe cause I love that he trying something new.
That he’s embracing a new world of film making.
    It’s like watching some Whittle.
At first you may not see what they are making, and a certain point you don’t care about the finished product. You discover that…

Holy smokes does Dahl’s writing fit with Wes Anderson.
This break neck speed dialogue and theatre staging WORKS.
Anderson has always had a flair for the recreating theatre on screen ( Rushmore and Astroid City )
But here he fully 100% embraces it.
    Everything about this works.
And if this is the direction he’s going in the future, it’s only going to get better.

This is the film I wanted as a kid.
Full of that 90s fun vibe.
Great animation, super funny, and for the most part stands on its own.
    Loads of Easter eggs.
    And a great voice cast.
