top 4–movies i can’t stop thinking about
In its purest essence an anti-thriller: in which violence is sanitized and stripped clear of all the suspense or entertainment value it could possibly hold. Michael Haneke films torture with a quietness and distance, cutting away from the horror we know is happening so we see only its aftermath. Watched this after reading Gogol’s story, and while this doesn’t quite measure up it’s such a fun portrayal of the tale. I definitely recommend going in blind to the movie because it makes the parts focusing on the witch’s wake more surprising and interesting. The visual effects in those sequences are probably the movie’s greatest strength, campy as they are, and the last 10 minutes make the whole movie worth watching.
