Robo Balboa’s review published on Letterboxd:
I haven’t been to a theater all year and I finally had a day where I could go and I’m so glad I did.
It’s that unexplainable thing where you’re so invested in a film that’s on a screen that encompasses your entire field of vision, and as it reveals what it is and what it will become it’s overwhelming and you’re just giddy about the way it unfolds.
I think what works most about this film is that feels like it’s a legend you would have read. It’s got lore, and rules, and vows, and betrayals and violence and romance and Gods and Valkyries and Witches, and the courage to do it all sincerely. It’s not trying to upend your expectations of what a myth is, but more upending your conception of how it would normally be translated to our time and to film.
A monumental achievement all around.
