I appreciate Shyamalan’s artistry. Inspired, albeit on the nose. I appreciate what feels like a freedom on his behalf to do things his way. I appreciate the cinematography of this film. I appreciate how Shyamalan oversees the making and release of a film project as a family enterprise during a world stopping pandemic responsibly. I appreciate how bonkers and PG-13 this movie is. Is it deliberate that Shyamalan consistently has good actors perform in an awkward b-movie style? Is this his aesthetic now? And if I ever see M. Night Shyamalan in the flesh I’m going to ask, “dude you couldn’t just take another pass over the script and then another pass over the edit?”
