This is easily the most disposable of Anderson’s work. There is absolutely no emotional crux, inherent due to the anthology presentation. It’s visually stunning and engaging. Technically brilliant as always. The first story is wonderful and investing and Brody and Del Toro are incredible. However it’s ultimately a inconsistent gimmick. A minor disappointment knowing how Anderson’s filmography has treated me the last 20 years.
Let me get something out of the way first. Whatever the fuck this movie is supposed to function as I greatly admire the fact that it absolutely owns Revolutions and Reloaded, as in Wachowski clearly respects those two films as part of the story despite mixed audience reception and doesn’t try to ignore them or retcon them. As I got older I came to really find something special in the sequel films, and I’m glad to see them relevant here. …

Second death star is an incredible idea. Still under construction and protected by a shield, we sense the danger and the vulnerability. The Emperor is coming and everyone loses their shit. Nothing wrong here.
Deleted scene of Luke constructing light saber should have been left in so we get some sense of finality to his training. Jabba's palace is average at best, so let's…
