Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ★★★★½

Steven Spielberg Films: Part 8:

While the first film is better, I still really enjoy watching this one. The plot moves away from those old action stories in pulp magazines and more towards those old stories about expeditions exploring the mysterious jungles of Asia. In that sense, this film is pretty stereotypical in its portrayal of Asian cultures but, despite this, the action is still phenomenal, the sense of adventure is still present, and, unlike a good portion of Indiana Jones fans, I actually really enjoyed the darker tone that this one had. Overall, it's a great follow-up and a very thrilling adventure that adds more weight to the success or failure of Dr. Jones' mission because of this aforementioned darker tone.
