Rafael Félix’s review published on Letterboxd:
The major difference between "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla" is that Jordan Vogt-Roberts knew how silly the film was and just embraced it. The characters are terrible, yes, absolutely. Tom Hiddleston's character was probably one of the useless main characters I've seen in a while, but truth be told, not even one of this people is well written at all.
But the film works, because its very light-hearted, didn't take itself way to serious, with silly character moments on top of rock music on the background, its dumb fun stuff that I could totally embrace.
I also loved how the film looks. The effects looked great to me, the epic showdowns of course were fantastic, but even the rest of the film looked great, the color pallete was super cool and some of the sequences benefited a lot from this. It gave the film a "over-the top" feel, adding a bit more to the "its just dumb fun, enjoy it".
Its silly, its dumb, and the movie knows it and embraces it full scale. I just wished they gave us some more characterization, at least to the two fucking leads, thats the one thing I can't forgive.
