Aronofsky's failed epic-ego project. Like a psuedo serious video game. Lame in a cartoonish way. Though makes sense Jackman was cast considering his stage background, the whole thing did occasionally give off play vibes.

“Asking for It” puts men and women in their own fringe camps, erasing the real and complex struggle for women to achieve equal rights, have their stories heard, and to see their rapists and abusers prosecuted fairly. And while the quest for revenge is a legitimate response to sexual trauma, in depicting the fight for justice as a literal assault on men, who are likewise presented as flat, angry red-pillers worthy of destruction, we’re not given the space to think…

As an fan of Ren and Stimpy I was pretty interested in this documentary when it first popped up on my radar a few years ago. I don't have much faith in 99% of documentary filmmakers to do anything good, but I figured it'd probably be nice to see the interviews they got and old storyboards, etc. I remember seeing on one of their social media things that the film was basically complete and that they had, unfortunately, not landed…

☆"To him, the funniest thing in the world was Fred and Barney having sex."☆

Contrary to what Brandon thought when he saw this premiere at Sundance over a year ago, indeed it has "see[n] the light of day." In fact, it's free, on the steaming app Vudu.

But one can understand why my friend felt that way, as Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story covers the extremely problematic, abusive, and sociopathic John Kricfalusi, a.k.a. "John K." However, I'll…

A fanboy doc that was forced to reckon with some terrible truths and handled them poorly in the edit. Looks like a movie that blew it's budget before the BuzzFeed article dropped and then shoves in a couple more interviews at the end. Robyn's statements are all cut to a best hits of abuse while raging music plays to intensify. John K is given wayy too much space as compared to those who comment on his pedophilia. Vanessa Coffey made a fair point when she publicly asked the directors "Why did you give him the last word?"

It's the fact that the creator itself doesn't realize the fucked up things he is saying:

"After all, we were just kids"
"We played: I show you, you show me"
“I didn’t consider how the film will make you feel”
"The film isn't really about you, it was about us"

    FUCK OFF!

Fuck this short. This basically boils down to “screw the person who was bullied, the bully’s feelings matter more”. Just so self indulgent in the worst way possible. Jay Rosenblatt doesn’t care about the kid he bullied, he just wants to make himself look good. He literally says that the bullied kid doesn’t matter to the film, and says since he has experienced tragedy that he feels his pain and that they are one and the same. As someone who has been bullied this really pisses me off. Rosenblatt tries to absolve himself, but he basically proves that he is still a bully with this film.

(i feel it’s important to preface this by saying i’m both queer and live with mental illness, and i come at this with zero prejudice toward anyone who identifies with either or both of those labels.) but man, five minutes into this, i knew i was in serious trouble. maybe liberal arts college broke me. i’m so tired of these portrayals of millennials as meticulously fitted, deeply broken, and profoundly insufferable, high on their own perceived erudition and progressive goalposting…

Tied knot. Takes quite a bit for its aggressive aesthetic+oral affectations to reveal the film’s rawness and gestures towards fragility, which is frustrating because its sexual/emotional Eschery configurations are only satisfying when it feels human. VIP Findlay.

The layers of artifice (verbal and formal) aren't always fully realized as layers atop vulnerability, especially for Sweeney as a performer, so a lot of it feels grating period, as opposed to grating with the invitation of peaking what's behind a nebbishy personality.…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

    Shit....ok....

So first, I (like almost every review I've read) 100% understand why people, especially women, have major issues with this film and they are valid. As a whole, I did like the movie but recognize there are many flaws to it, and is nowhere near perfect. For example, I was very turned off by the first hour of the movie in which Cassandra takes out her rage on women rather than the men, and I'm a little surprised to…
