Making this film was a terrible idea.
I’m just sick and tired of Hollywood and their obsession with trauma porn and films where black people fall in love their oppressor. What infuriates me even more is that a black woman wrote and directed this. I completely understand that it’s not easy for women in Hollywood, especially women of color but I can’t even attempt to like this.

visually stunning. the black & white works very well with the story. rebecca hall has such an interesting style and i'd love to see more of her as a director.
ruth negga and tessa thompson are magnificent. they gave stunningly nuanced performances and were able to elevate the script even in it's most shaky parts.
