    Violet Evergarden: The Movie

As someone who has a great deal of fondness for the show I’m not gonna lie, once this hits Tearjerker mode for the last like 50 minutes it was kind of a Sit.

Loved the past/present [or present/future? You know what I mean], kind of wish this was almost entirely from the perspective of that girl learning the ways Violet touched all these peoples lives.

    Beautiful gowns though. Beautiful gowns….

Fuck a bald Eagle, the National animal should be The Cow.

Meat is not a food, it’s an emblem, of security, of independence, packaged and sold to the American public as long as they don’t spend their money on other American myths like automobiles first.

Pair it with Red River to have a good think about The American myth, labor, masculinity, and above all our noble friend The Cow.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

A couple things have been on my mind for a bit that I just want to jot down here.

    1) This is, probably, in consideration for Reeves’ best performance. Certainly it’s the best of his performances during this wave of new appreciation and memeification (hey did you know my phone wanted to change that to mummification….it’s not that far off is all I’m saying) he’s undergone over the 2010’s, which is to say it’s the first to really truly emphasize…

Got the Grindlewald or whatever trailer in front of this which I think counts as a hate crime.

Pretty good! Think it kind of gets dull for a bit when they have to take a trip to Exposition town and wish they’d rode the meta stuff for longer before dropping it but it’s good. Haven’t been online for a while so can’t say I’m aware at all what the Temperature is on this one outside of some Letterboxd reviews from friends but I’m sure everyone is being normal about it.

Shout out to the guy who bleeds George for $242 during the run on the bank and then has the GALL to roll up to the final charity session with nothing but a *coin* purse. Don’t think I don’t see you.

    Anyways, it’s The Movie.

Man the last time I watched this was before I started estrogen back in 2018 so in my memory this was like a light and fun but minor movie. Watching it this time I was fully in tears almost the entire time, a masterpiece and possible the *defining* Satoshi Kon movie.

    The reason for the season!

I think Frank Morgan gives one of my favorite performances of all time in this. Anyways, I’m just very thankful that I was born on a planet with *two* holiday masterpieces starring Jimmy Stewart.
