• Nope

i almost didn't review this because i'm so sad to have to write a negative review for a film i was so, so excited for. let me just say i LOVE jordan peele. 'Get Out' is probably the most creative, crazy horror film i've ever seen, with such a unique voice. 'Nope' couldn't be more different. It's big and flashy and full of action, but totally lacking in heart. the characters felt so underdeveloped that i felt totally apathetic when…

St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold

an absolute mess!!! i genuinely believe the writers were on coke or something because what was this.....but a sequel to my favorite childhood film featuring evil david tennant, alcoholic colin firth and a shakespeare play? how could i not love this 😭

  • Spiderhead

the scene where chris hemsworth is laughing then screaming in agony then crying all in the space of a few seconds is just me on an average tuesday

  • Men

i'll be honest, i was kind of won over by the beautifully disgusting gory conclusion and the fantastic performances from rory kinnear and jessie buckley, but sadly 'men' is nowhere near as impressive as my beloved alex garland's other work! while 'ex machina' and 'annihilation' are deeply profound, leaving you with a million questions, 'men' has only one message it aggressively reinforces throughout the film: "men are bad!" i think garland wanted to say something new and make a bold point about the female experience, without really learning enough about the female experience to do so

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

happy birthday bro enjoy your life altering trauma!

sidenote: i feel like this could've been so much better if a more interesting actor played the protagonist. michael douglas gave a very soulless performance, which meant at times i wasn't as invested in the plot as i could've been

The Strange Thing About the Johnsons

the first time i watched this, i was so disturbed and repulsed i couldn't eat afterwards. i still definitely have a love/hate relationship with this film. but there's something about all of ari aster's works that just makes me want to go back and rewatch them over and over again to try and understand them. he does horror like no one else, he evokes a feeling of total psychological terror in me and it's kind of incredible

    American Honey

wow wow wow i LOVE andrea arnold!!!

this and fish tank made a great double feature. i had never seen american honey before, and i was nervous it wouldn't be as special as fish tank - but it totally blew me away. it's such an immersive, beautifully captured work of art, and sasha lane is such a star. i could watch it all over again right now!!

  • Dopesick

this show is so important, not just to me but to so many people. i wanted to talk about my experience with this awful drug to explain why.

in 2020, i got addicted to oxycontin, and it destroyed me. the first time i tried it, i felt better than i had ever felt in my entire fucking life. after that, every time i would use, all my emotional pain would just get swallowed up and replaced by this warm hug…
